Brad Pye’s National Sports Beat (5/4-5/10/2017)

Trouble seems to be following North Carolina State’s Taddeus Moss like it did with his famous father Randy Moss. Randy Moss starred in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders and the Green Bay Packers. Young Moss will transfer to LSU.
Considering Sunday what might have happened if Blake Griffin hadn’t been injured and lost for the rest of the season. The Utah Jazz did wash the Clippers out of the playoffs by the time you read this!
The Cleveland Cavaliers have five super starters led by Captain LeBron James and a former two-time All-Star in Deron Williams, who is playing like he did as a starter, Williams told USA TODAY Sports: “When name is called, just go in there and contribute by making solid plays and not making mistakes.” And the beat continues!
Did Coach Hue Jackson get the QB he wanted and needed by selecting Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer, the first QB in the draft and 52nd player picked in the draft.
A whole lot of teams passed on the controversial running back Joe Mixon of the Oklahoma Sooners. Mixon was made the 48th player in the draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
After the Utah Jazz eliminated the L.A. Clippers from the playoffs in Game Seven of this year’s first round, they will have to make the team for a real champion run next season. The Clippers foursome of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Jamal Crawford, J.J Redick, Luc Mbah a Moute, Marreese Speights, Raymond Felton, Alan Anderson, Brandon Bass et al.
The Oakland Raiders think they have the best blockbuster running back in ex-Seattle Marshawn Lynch, who can run them into the next Super Bowl. The Raiders are getting Lynch in a two year free agent deal. And the beat continues!
Grace Holderness died Saturday she lived here in L.A for more than five decades. Goodbye old Gal, Tulsa, Oklahoma! Goodbye old friend. Goodbye Grace as my Barber at the old and new Watkins Hotel Barber Shop and at Pat & Johnson Barber Shop on Western Ave. Grace Holderness lived here for more than five decades as a history making Barber and as the first female boxing manager. She also managed other top California State Champions including Billy (Peacock), Billy “The Kid” Hawkins and other top challengers. Grace had more contacts in the entertainment and boxing worlds with such noted Hollywood stars as Academy Award winner Sidney Poitier, and Long running TV Show with Raymond Burr “IronSide” co-star Don Marshall, Joe Adams, Manager for Ray Charles, and Joe Adams’ brother Arthur Adams a famous radio announcer too…. Goodbye dear Grace for all good things you did here on earth on the way to your home going will turn strangers into brothers. Goodbye dear Grace! Hopefully your good deeds here on earth will be long remembered and not soon forgotten. Amen!
The five rookies that became first-round picks in the NFL Draft, were DE Myles Garrett (Texas A&M ), Solomon Thomas (Stanford), Jonathan Allen, (Alabama), Leonard Fournette (LSU). Jamal Adams (LSU).
Veteran L.A. Chargers QB Philip Rivers has an outstanding group that includes Clemson budding super star in Mike Williams, the team’s No. 7 pick. Williams suffered a neck injury and it was thought his career could have been over. The 6’4” and 218-pounder said, “oh no”. Williams returned and caught a short pass from his star QB Deshaun Watson in Clemson for a TD. On the season Williams caught 98 passes for 1,361 yards and 11 TDs. He also picked up his degree in the process. And the beat continues!
Ground breaking ceremonies were opened last week in New York City honoring Jackie Robinson. Jackie broke the color line in MLB in 1947 with the then Brooklyn Dodgers . . .
The No.1 selections are Notre Dame High’s Hunter Greene from Sherman Oaks
