Brad Pye’s National Sports Beat (5/25-5/31/17)

The Cleveland Browns’ Andrew Hawkins is more than a great wide receiver. He is outstanding and a standout in Academics too. Hawkins earned a masters degree in Sports Administration with a 4.0 GPA at Columbia, Andrews, is only 5-7 and 180 pounds and for his next goal as an NFL General, brute strength will not be necessary. Remember the name Andrew Hawkins, you will be hearing more about him.
Ex-San Francisco ‘49ers QB Kaepernick who reportedly refused to stand in previous games, will stand if he is given a chance the next time. Professor Harry Edwards says Kaepernick, like Muhammad Ali, started a conversation on race when he refused to stand to be inducted into the Armed Services. Edwards says Kaepernick did too.
Captain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s new book is entitled: “Coach Wooden and Me, Our 50-Year Friendship On and Off the Court.” Kareem says he doesn’t think Coach Wooden would like the way the NBA is treating the colleges with its one and out rule. Kareem calls it “a travesty.”
The Lakers got their man UCLA’s Lonzo Ball as the second greatest point guard in Lakers history and secured the man they really wanted. With Lonzo, the first of the three Ball Brothers from Chino Hills High reportedly headed for UCLA and to the Lakers too. Magic and his crew got off to a roaring start. And the beat continues!
The Cavaliers’ LeBron James scored 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists in game 3 of the semi-final vs. the Boston Celtics. The Cavs lost 108-111.
Steph Curry and Golden State Warriors sweep the San Antonio Spurs 129-115 and win a trip back to the NBA Finals for the third consecutive time. Congratulations!!! And the beat continues!
