Line Up Includes Publishing Pioneer Susan L. Taylor, Thought Leader Julianne Malveaux and Pulitzer Prize – winning Writer Isabel Wilkerson.
A triumvirate of black female intelligentsia is set to headline the fifth annual Leimert Park Village Book Fair. Former editor-in-chief of Essence magazine Susan L. Taylor, economist Dr. Julianne Malveaux, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist -turned-author Isabel Wilkerson have been nabbed to stimulate intellectual dialogue for this year’s literacy event in Los Angeles where authors and artists gather to showcase their latest works.
The Leimert Park Village Book Fair will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Leimert Park on the Vision Theatre back lot, located at 43rd Street Degnan Boulevard. The family-oriented event is held in the heart of Leimert Park, which is considered the center of the African American arts/intellectual scene. The event is free and open to the public.
This annual book fair has become a much anticipated cultural tradition in the community. It provides authors an opportunity to promote their newest work and meet some of their fans up close and personal. “I am really happy that we can bring this caliber of distinguished literary intellectuals to our community,” said honorary chairperson Dr. Bernard Kinsey. “Through their creative work, Susan L. Taylor, Dr. Julianne Malveaux and Isabel Wilkerson have engaged, informed, and entertained readers while providing a social narrative about the Black experience.”
