Pastor Ernest D. Alexander

District Elder Ernest D. Alexander passed away on Friday, February 14, at the age of 81.  He was the founder and pastor of Bethesda Temple Church located at 3915 South Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Prior to forming Bethesda Temple Church in 1988, Pastor Alexander served as a musician and assistant pastor at two churches in St. Louis, MO, and three in Los Angeles.  An accomplished instrumentalist, he played the piano, keyboard and organ.

Pastor Alexander was born in 1932 to Arling Alexander, Sr., and Valentine ‘Tiny’ Alexander, in St. Louis. He was the third in a family of 16 children–10 boys (three of whom preceded him in death) and six girls. Seven of the brothers served as pastors.

He is survived by Mae L. Alexander, his wife of almost 60 years; three sons, Byron, Daryl and Elgin; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He leaves to mourn his passing, a sad congregation, 13 siblings and a host of nephews and nieces, colleagues and friends.

“He will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved and respected him,” noted a Bethesda Temple member.

A memorial service was held on February 22 and the homegoing service on February 24, both at Peace Apostolic Church in Carson.
