Bass Gets Another Endorsement Leaders Call for Expedited Federal Funding for Transportation

Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky today announced his endorsement of Speaker Emeritus Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) for the 33rd Congressional District as the leaders joined together in calling for additional federal transportation funding. “Karen Bass is deeply rooted in the community she serves. She began as a community organizer, and worked her way up to become Speaker of the State Assembly–one of the most important and powerful elected jobs in California,” said Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky. “I look forward to working with Karen on the extension of the Wilshire subway, a project that is highly dependent on federal New Starts funding. The Wilshire corridor serves both my supervisorial district and the 33rd Congressional District, so we have a common interest in securing the funding necessary to extend the subway to the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration campus.” “Delivering real results that will improve the quality of life for the people of Los Angeles is my top priority and it will continue to be in Washington,” Bass said at the announcement, which was held at the Wilshire/Western station of the Los Angeles Metro’s Purple Line. “Transportation–keeping our people and goods moving–is a key part of our economy and it takes a real partnership at the state, local and federal levels. In the Assembly, working with local leaders like Supervisor Yaroslavsky, I’ve helped deliver infrastructure bonds for road projects and increased funding for public transit. We’ve also lobbied for more federal funds–particularly for the 405, the Gold Line, and high speed rail, and the Obama Administration has been responsive. As we continue working to turn the economy around, we will continue pushing to secure as much funding as possible to develop our infrastructure here in Los Angeles and create the jobs our communities need.” Under Bass’ leadership the Assembly fast-tracked federal economic stimulus legislation that aided Californians who have been affected by the national economic crisis as well as jumpstarted billions of dollars of infrastructure projects across the state. Bass has also been endorsed by the Honorable Diane Watson, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, City Controller Wendy Greuel and other elected officials and organizations including EMILY’s list. Paid for and authorized by Karen Bass for Congress, 777 S. Figueroa Street, #4050 Los Angeles, CA 90017
