Authorities ID Man Killed in Compton Shooting; Investigation Continuing

Authorities today identified a man fatally shot in Compton, and detectives continued their efforts to solve the crime.

Awki Wilds, 41, of Compton died at a hospital after being wounded about 11:35 a.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Castlegate Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and sheriff’s department.

Deputies found Wilds suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. A motive for the shooting was not known. No description was available of a suspect or suspects.


Following the shooting, detectives detained a person for questioning, but no arrests had been made as of early Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
