The U.S. unemployment rate has risen to 9.8% since November. The unemployment rate for California alone was 12.4% in November and is up 1% from year ago, according to the EDD.
In response to this state of emergency, the Sentinel in partnership with Assemblyman Mike Davis 48th District, Employment Development Department (EDD), Mothers in Action (MIA), Brotherhood Crusade (BC), Southeast L.A. Crenshaw WorkSource Center (CWCSLA) and various local government and private organizations, are asking for the community’s help in preparing people to get back to work with the 4th Annual Job Fair, Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, in Exposition Park, Wallis Annenberg Building.
We are calling on all community barbershops, beauty salons, clothing stores and boutiques to help folks get dressed for success. We are ready, willing and able to receive all that you can give to help struggling people get their lives back on track. People need their dignity, respect and more importantly, their income to support their families and loved ones.
Will you help us help our community get back on its feet? Let’s show our community how much we care and that we do care. We’ve got work to do and we need your help to do it.
For more information on how you can get involved, please call Joan Scott, Senior Field Representative for Mike Davis Office at (213) 744-2111.
