The California Association of Clerks and Election Officials (CACEO) honored Assemblyman Mike Davis this morning with the "Legislator of the Year" Award, during their Annual Winter Conference in Sacramento.

This is the second year that CACEO has honored a leader who has shown commitment to their goal of fostering uniformity of practices and procedures in the elections community while maintaining a high standard of professionalism. The award was presented by Ms. Sachi A. Hamai who is the Executive Officer-Clerk of the Board of Supervisors for Los Angeles County.

"It is humbling to be recognized as a leader from among all the dedicated lawmakers serving our state," Assemblyman Davis stated.

Assemblyman Davis was honored for his work on AB 2607, which passed the legislature and was signed by the Governor early this year. AB 2607 established a three-year pilot program authorizing Los Angeles, Merced, Stanislaus and Orange counties to permit the electronic filing of local officials' Statements of Economic Interest (SEI). This bill was a preferred proposal, because it would allow California to focus on and asses the strengths and weaknesses of SEI E-Filing before going statewide with such a policy.

"This policy will give the State of California an opportunity to realize the environmental benefits associated with reducing paper, as well as provide convenience to its local officials in submitting their SEI forms online. Through this pilot project, California will be able to determine if this service should be provided statewide," revealed Assemblyman Davis.

The California Association of Clerks and Election Officials (CACEO) was created to develop and promote a high standard of administrative ability and efficiency in personnel conducting the administrative affairs of the Registrar of Voters; promote the welfare of members of the Association and the counties they represent; and to promote uniformity of practice and procedures in the administrative activities in the application of the laws governing the Registrar of Voters.

Assemblymember Mike Davis was elected to serve the 48th District in November of 2006. Located in Los Angeles County, the district is home to a myriad of diverse communities including: Arlington Park, Athens, Chesterfield Square, King Estates, Korea Town, Lafayette Park, Magnolia Square, North University Park, University Park, Vermont Knolls, West Adams, West Park Terrace and Wilshire Center.
