Pasadena –Assemblymember Chris Holden recently named two women who represent opposite ends of the district but share a common dedication to their communities to be “Women of the Year” for the 41st Assembly District.

“Our state boasts a rich history of women who have made lasting contributions to their communities and state through their public spirit and activism,” said Holden. “It is my great pleasure to recognize Rachel Worby and Zephyr Tate-Mann as ‘Women of the Year.’”

Worby is the artistic director and conductor of MUSE/IQUE – a new take on the civic orchestra. As one of the first women conductors in the country, Worby is known for her exuberant style and wide range of musical styles and her dedication to spreading music throughout the community. Prior to starting MUSE/IQUE, she served for many years as music director of the Pasadena Pops Orchestra where she expanded outreach programs to underserved communities. As a guest conductor, Worby has led orchestras throughout the world and continues to spread music throughout Southern California, fostering new generations of music lovers.

Tate-Mann has enjoyed a lifetime of success in her many endeavors. She is the owner of a Claremont construction and investment firm, a lawyer and a community activist.  In 2012, she was appointed to the California Earthquake Authority by Governor Jerry Brown.  She is an active member of the Board of Directors of the Pomona Valley Human Relations Council and is active in many civic groups including the American Business Women Association, Black Women Lawyers Association and NAACP.
