The Twenty Pearls Heritage Foundation and the Tau Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will host the 5th Annual Pink & Green Golf Classic – a charity golf tournament – on Friday, August 10, 2012, at the Rio Hondo Golf Course in Downey, California, sponsored by Galpin Motors and First American Title Insurance Company. The greenway tee-off launches with a shotgun start at noon and will include contests, prizes and several surprises. All tournament proceeds will benefit high school, college and graduate/professional-level students who have excelled academically in the face of financial hardship.
Golfers of varied skill levels are invited to indulge in the friendly competition, mix and mingle with a few new cohorts, take part in the evening’s Scholarship Awards Dinner honoring several exceptional students and dance the night away. The Twenty Pearls Heritage Foundation is poised to present more than $7,500 in scholarships during this year’s fete due to the tremendous generosity of last year’s Golf Classic participants. Members of the Tau Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are hopeful that public support for this year’s scholarship fundraiser will surpass previous fundraising totals, and ultimately, aid numerous academically-driven students in their educational pursuits in 2013.
“This year, we aim to attract more than 100 golfers and 200 additional guests to participate in the 5th Annual Pink & Green Golf Classic and Scholarship Awards Dinner,” said Rasheeda Garner, President, Tau Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. “Over the past five years, this event has grown into a tremendous experience returning participants look forward to each year, and that loyal support has allowed us to expand our programs. Since its inception, the tournament has generated scholarships for students that are academically high-achieving despite experiencing financial hardship. At its core, this tournament is a scholarship fundraiser, and its success determines the level of outreach we can fulfill each year.”
The Foundation annually distributes several scholarships to a diverse population of Southern California students. Recipients are selected based on unmet financial need, academic achievement, educational background, employment and volunteer activities, community involvement and personal goals. The Pink and Green Golf Classic and Scholarship Awards Dinner is part of the Tau Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.’s service program initiatives.
