Mayor Villaraigosa to Present Awards to Winners of Student

The contest invited students from kindergarten through high school to explore aspects of African American Heritage while showcasing their own artistic skills. Entries were judged by a panel of community members, artists and African American Heritage Month committee members.

This year's contest entries came from local public, charter and private schools, as well as different community recreation centers. Winners will received a certificate from the Mayor, Disneyland tickets from title sponsor The Walt Disney Company, savings bond certificates from Wells Fargo, as well as books from The Stephanie Starks Hope Foundation.

Honorable mention winners will receive a certificate and Disneyland tickets. The competition is a collaborative effort between the Mayor's Office, Department of Cultural Affairs and the Department of Recreation and Parks.
