Moving closer to realizing God’s vision for his ministry, Pastor James A. Jenkins joined his congregation in praise and rejoicing at Abundant Grace Bible Church’s Building Dedication Service on January 8.
The new edifice is located at 3133 West 131st Street in Hawthorne and the capacity audience enjoying the spirit-filled worship included several local ministers and their wives along with many friends and supporters.
“We’re excited about this move and give God the glory. It’s been about a year and eight months for us and we are grateful to God for it. We’re in the early stages of our development. The Lord has fixed it so now we have a physical space we have access to,” said Dr. Jenkins.
Rev. Perry J. Jones, pastor of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, delivered a stirring sermon entitled ‘Whose House Is It’ based on Psalm 127. Among the guests were Pastor R. Stanley Haywood of Jesus Is the Answer Christian Fellowship who led the Litany of Acceptance, and Pastor Leonard White of Holy Mount Calvary Baptist Church who gave the Prayer of Dedication.
Also, members of Abundant Grace participated including Bishop Michael V. Jenkins, Executive Pastor; Elder Melony Pitts, and Sister Betty Sims.
The founding of Abundant Grace grew from Bible Study hosted in the home of Pastor and First Lady Kathye Jenkins and little did they know that God had greater plans. But as the weeks went by and attendance kept increasing, the vision of God became clear.
So, on June 6, 2010, Abundant Grace Bible Church was born. In the beginning, the congregation worshipped at the American Legion building in Hawthorne, but they kept the faith and remained focused and the result is a new home.
As for the future, Pastor Jenkins plans to evangelize in the local community. “We are going to begin this month to canvassing our community to help people to know there’s a church here on 131st and Crenshaw. Our interest is to minister in this community and not just colonize in our own.”
