“Season Of Thanksgiving” Fundraising Gala Honors Actor/Author Hill Harper

Hill HarperHolman United Methodist Church’s Second Annual Fundraising Gala “Season of Thanksgiving” will be held on Thursday, October 30, at 6:00 p.m. at the Beverly Hills Country Club, 3084 Motor Avenue, Los Angeles. Award-winning Author, Actor and Activist Hill Harper will be honored during this event. Tickets are $500 and can be purchased at Holman, 3320 West Adams Blvd., Los Angeles. The focus of this fundraiser is the future of young black men and women in America and the fundraiser goal is to foster a conversation about the role of education and religion in shaping their future. Harper, bestselling author of the award-winning, “Letters to a Young Brother,” and the most recently released, “Letters to a Young Sister,” will speak on how young people must live up to their destiny and the community’s role in helping them reach their full potential.

Harper’s, “Letters to a Young Brother,” was a New York Times bestseller, won two NAACP awards, and was named Best Book for Young Adults by the American Library Association. “Letters to a Young Sister,” was released in June to critical acclaim. The 42-year old actor currently stars in the CBS series, CSI: NY playing Dr. Hawkes, a role for which he won the 2008 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a drama series. He has appeared in numerous prime-time television shows and feature films, including The Sopranos, ER, Lackwanna Blues, He Got Game, The Skulls, In Too Deep, The Nephews and The Visit.

A native of Iowa City, Harper graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from Brown University and cum laude with a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He also holds a master’s degree with honors from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He has given motivational talks around the country and founded MANifest Your Destiny Foundation, a non-profit youth organization dedicated to empowering, encouraging and inspiring underserved males to succeed.
