By Sentinel Staff Writer
Published March 13, 2008

The City of Compton is proud to announce the Grand Opening of the newest Payless Shoe Source in the South Bay. On Saturday, March 15, at 11:30 a.m. at 1633 S. Alameda Street, Suite 101, Compton, CA 90221, Mayor Eric J. Perrodin, members of Compton City Council and representatives from Payless will be on hand with to introduce a store unlike most of the Payless locations throughout the country.

“This location will feature a new look and design that is both high tech and attractive, showcasing how important the executives at Payless felt The Gateway Towne Center in Compton was to the overall growth of our brand,” said William Wilson, the store manager for the Compton Payless Shoe Source.

Gifts, prizes and discount coupons will be given away to local residents during the Grand Opening. In addition, local dignitaries will have an opportunity to share the continued vision for The Gateway Towne Center as well as other developments throughout Compton. In the past six months, Compton has introduced Target, Best Buy, Cold Stones Creamery, Fresh and Easy and several other national retail stores to the Compton community. Compton CareerLink has served as a clearing house bringing more than 1000 new jobs to the city through the various new developments taking place in Compton.

“Working with Reginald Allen and the entire staff at Compton CareerLink has been a rewarding experience,” said Wilson, because we feel we have developed a strong relationship that will give local Compton residents access to new opportunities and jobs in our store and other Payless locations throughout the South Bay.”
