Biblical doctrine combined with kid-focused fun equaled excitement for Christ for children attending the 2nd Annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church (COR) in Irvine.

According to Pastor Mark Whitlock, the weeklong program, held July 25 to July 29, offered a wide range of activities for youngsters from ages 3 to 13 years old and the result was a huge success.

“Our goal was to help children create spiritual passion for Christ along with gaining solid understanding of the basic principles of the Bible. With the leadership of Youth Ministry Leader, Rev. Charles Dorsey, and the amazing support of great parents and volunteers, we did just that and more,” said Rev. Whitlock.

The curriculum included praise and worship, liturgical dance, art and sports group activities, Spanish classes, sign language, Bible Study, and scripture memory exercises. Also, Rev. Mia Whitlock, first lady of COR, engaged the youth in a question and answer session, Rev. Dr. Richard Rose taught about baptism, Brother Ron Guyer instructed about Communion, Rev. Martha Daniel explained the importance of Bible Study, and Sister Lucrettia Lawhorn catered child-friendly food every night of the week.

“The students learned all 66 books of the Bible and memorized several scriptures including John 3:16, Romans 10:8-10, Galatians 5:22-23, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, and Ephesians 6:1-3. They also made T-shirts to represent how God sees them on the inside, created jewelry with a cross on it to remind them that God is always there, wrote songs about their love for Christ, and had a ton of fun with a spirited session of Minute To Win It,” said Rev. Whitlock.

“Overall, we aimed to fulfill our goal to help young people become fired up for God.”
