Youth leaders in the faith community are encouraged to bring young people to the Urban Kids Fishing Derby on November 12, at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, 4100 S. La Cienega Blvd., in Los Angeles.
According to Candice Price, owner of Urban American Outdoors TV (UAOTV) and event host, “The free program introduces youth to an outdoor hobby and wildlife conservation practices. Registration for the fishing excursion starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by the derby, which ends at 12:30 p.m.”
The event co-hosts are California Department of Fish & Wildlife, Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, U.S. Forest Service, F.A.C.T.S Tutoring Services, Healthy Park Healthy People, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife.
“This will be an ‘Every Kid in a Park’ event and it’s free for youngsters between the ages of 4 to 15, however, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There will be loaner poles, and bait available for those who needs one,” explained Price.
Activities include a gift bag for each participant and prizes for youth who catch the biggest fish. A portion of the derby will be filmed for broadcast on a future segment on Urban American Outdoors TV with host Wayne Hubbard.
Hubbard, who has mentored over 100,000 youth in the greater Kansas City area, has a 17-year history of sharing his outdoors adventures, conservation tips, green ideas, wildlife information and STEM education.
“UAOTV airs weekly on Bounce TV KC on Saturday morning at 7:30am and recently started on the nationally syndicated network RLTV. The show offers sports enthusiast’s a chance to view outdoors from a different perspective,” said Price.
