Christian entertainment for youth is reaching another level, thanks to the creativity of Clint D. Johnson and Horace Christian, Jr.

Inspired by their relationship with Christ, the Los Angeles area men developed a cadre of godly action heroes and animated characters that apply scripture and biblical values to succeed in today’s world.

Johnson’s company, M25:20 Media, and its subsidiary, Christian Action Hero Universe (CAHU), produces graphic novels, activity books, trading cards, clothing and live action shows. The firm’s motto is “Where Heroes Give God Glory.”

An artist, writer and designer since his youth, Johnson said, “The Lord gifted me with these talents to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and creatively share the gospel with youth in a way that they will receive it.

“So, why not have superheroes that acknowledge and understand that they have power through the Holy Ghost and they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them.”

One of Johnson’s main heroes is Matthew Cross Faith Walker, a character he created more than 25 years ago and is now the longest-running faith-based African American action figure in print. During the day, Cross is a street preacher, but at night, he hits the street as Faith Walker, fighting crime while quoting scriptures in the fictional city of Los Cosmos.

Over the years, Johnson’s character has endured considerable success and Relevant Magazine ranked Faith Walker as the top Christian action hero in May 2015. Also, last year, Johnson combined Cross’ many exploits and published them as a graphic novel, “Faith Walker Collected,” which parents and children embraced.

Johnson believes his company’s success lies in the uniqueness of their products.

“Many Christian parents who aren’t happy with the messages that the world bombards their children with. Until now there wasn’t an alternative to what the secular world offered,” he explained.

“CAHU to the rescue!! We provide action heroes that are cool and always relay a message of biblical virtues and values that support the Christian lifestyle.”

Horace Christian, Jr., shares that marketing philosophy. When he launched “Dex Davis: Child of God – The Anointed Gospel Cartoon” 10 years ago, Christian aimed to appeal to parents seeking Christian entertainment that reflected the multi-cultural world and real issues that their children faced. In addition, he believed his character could teach youth the Word of God through animation and creative media.

While he had no previous experience as an animator, Christian had trusted God for many years and followed His direction to create the Dex Davis series.

“Of course, Jesus was the main influence in the launch,” recalled Christian. “I had absolutely no intention or desire to create a kids animated series. But, when I saw that there wasn’t an ‘antidote’ to all the crazy, secular, adult-oriented animated shows that kids are watching, then I had to answer the call. Along the way, God placed mentors and advisors around me to help and guide me.”

To date, Christian has produced three Dex Davis DVDs and the first episode (“The Cover Up!”) recently aired around the world on the “Smile of a Child,” TBN’s children’s television network. Also, the Dex Davis Bible Study Curriculum is available for churches and Christian schools.

As the cartoon’s reputation grows, Christian is finding his schedule filled with video screenings and speaking engagements. The character’s popularity may lie in the realness of Dex Davis, a normal 11-year-old human being. He doesn’t possess superpowers nor is he a wizard, alien or secret agent.

“He’s just a regular kid with one thing that makes him unique – he’s born-again Christian that’s filled with the Holy Spirit of God. He depends on the Word of God to help him deal with everyday childhood issues like bullies, drugs, obeying parents, cheating, and just doing what is right,” said Christian.

“Dex is a great example that’s showing young children that they can be used by God at a young age and that they too can have the power to overcome the negative struggles of life by having a close, real relationship with Jesus Christ.”
