By the time you guys read this article, we will be on the final day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago. Now that we’ve all heard the speeches, promises, predictions, potential policies, plans and platitudes; it’s time to go to work. I don’t need to tell you that the dominant society, more so than the house negro (we sick boss) are reeling in shock and is frightened—frightened because their worst nightmare looks like it just might come true.
That’s right, the fear of not only a woman running for the highest office in the land, but the potential of a woman running this country and when you add to that, a Black woman (not to diminish or deny her Indian heritage) that frightens the hell out of a certain group of Americans. You know them; the xenophobic, homophobic, sexist, racist, and just plain ‘ol ignorant.
And please be on the lookout, because this ignorance is going to show itself in a number of different places and these fools won’t always have on a red hat, some will show up with no hat on at all. Some will show up in our sanctuaries, synagogues, mosque, barbershops, beauty salons and backyard barbecues.
Brothers and sisters let’s strap ourselves in because this could be a rough ride; but we can handle it as long as we don’t allow the devil(s) to take us off course. These imps are going to use every form of communication known to man to be smirch, denigrate, diminish, and destroy presidential nominee VP Harris’s character.
Is this election cycle important? I would say yes, and not because I see Trump as the boogeyman, because he is not. It’s important to me because I want a better life for my children and my grandchildren.
Why should we get out and vote? I think the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, said it best, “He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.”
If elected, will VP Harris be the great emancipator and the answer to all of America’s flaws and defects? No. Though, what I do believe is that VP Harris will work toward, as the late great Barbara Jordan once said, “She will try to make America as good as its promise.” Malcom X said something very significant, “A ballot is like a bullet. You don’t throw your ballots until you see a target, and if that target is not within your reach, keep your ballot in your pocket.”
We have no excuse to keep our ballot (bullet) in our pockets. Black people, it’s time to get locked and loaded because you got a target (VP Kamala Harris) so fire away!
