Many people in the Black community know folks who have been wrongly convicted and are serving prison time, despite being innocent of the charges. My husband, Horace Burns, is a person who has been wrongly convicted.
Horace has been in prison since 1984. He was 18 years old at the time and now he is 58 years old. Because of a racist prosecutor who is now deceased, Horace was unfairly charged with four murders, but he never killed anyone. Horace was only sitting in car when murders took place.
The police never found any evidence that he went in the house where the murders took place. But the prosecutor convinced the jury on a theory and paid a jailhouse informant who escaped from jail supposedly soon after. This case was totally unfair, and our family is suffering because Horace was unjustly locked up.
We are filing a petition for the Racial Justice Act reform bill. We found about ten different things the prosecutor said with racial overtones. We are hoping Horace can get back in court and tell his story.
Our family and friends are praying for the release of Horace and that we can get support of the community with this matter. You can contribute to Horace’s legal expenses on GoFundMe.com
