Keeping her commitment to address the concerns of her constituents, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove convened a roundtable breakfast with members of local labor unions. The forum was held on Feb. 12, at office of the L.A. Sentinel Newspaper.
Represented were members of the Teamsters, Los Angeles/Orange County Building Trades Council, National Association of Letter Carriers, Ironworkers, United Teachers Los Angeles,
California Federation of Teachers, Communication Workers of America, Association of Flight Attendants – Communication Workers of America, National Air Traffic Controllers Association, and Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters.
“The labor community is an incredible partner in the work to make Los Angeles more affordable. This roundtable was an opportunity for me to share federal updates and to hear from our labor partners about what is keeping them up at night,” explained Kamlager-Dove.
The congresswoman listened carefully as the labor leaders outlined the issues and priorities facing today’s workforce as well as shared their ideas and hopes for the future. In addition, Kamlager-Dove provided an update on potential activities and pending legislation occurring in Congress.
As the meeting concluded, Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove announced her intention to hold similar forums on a regular basis. She also emphasized her unity with labor.
“The biggest goal right now is to continue to push infrastructure dollars into Los Angeles. We need more housing. We need upgraded Infrastructure. We can’t do that without our partners in labor,” declared the congresswoman.
Prominent labor activists expressed their support for Kamlager-Dove and commended her efforts on behalf of the movement.
Yvonne Wheeler, president of the L.A. County Federation of Labor, said, “Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove has always been a friend of our cause and has consistently supported our efforts to obtain a living wage for our members. We appreciate her backing and look forward to continuing working closely with her in the future.”
Offering similar comments, Stacy Hill-Williams, vice president of the Brotherhood Crusade, insisted, “Sydney knows the challenges that working people face on a daily basis and she has proven, time and again, that she will fight with us to improve the quality of everyone’s life. We couldn’t ask for a stronger supporter than Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove.”
