Since trillion can be an indefinite number and we cannot even count how many lies are told compounded, I am guesstimating that’s the number. Admittedly and obviously, I don’t know.
The picture is that “tongues” are wagging timelessly and without number. Of course, not everyone is not telling the truth. And sometimes, there are many people who do tell the truth.
One of the many problems with the “tongue” is that once it starts, you don’t know which way it will go and who will be attacked. Job said something quite impressive about the tongue, lips, and speech in Job 27:3,4: “So long as breath remains in [my mouth], and in my nostrils is Eloah’s (GOD’s) breath, these lips of mine shall not perverseness speak, my tongue shall never utter what is false.”
Job had an excruciating, painful and devastating period in his life. God had a meeting of His heavenly council. Satan attended that meeting and asked God for permission to attack Job with painful sores and attacks on his family and material goods. Job remained faithful through it all.
The tongue and the words spoken by the tongue through the lips too often turn the tongue into a lethal weapon. What does James 3 in the Bible say about the tongue? He said the tongue is a wielding power, which can cause wars.
James made a comparison between the bits in the horse’s mouth and the helm of the helmsman guiding the ship. It is the rudder in the ship with which the helmsman guides the ship. The rudder is a small, but controlling part of the ship.
The bit in the horse’s mouth is a small part of the whole mechanism – so is the bit and the helm. So, the same with the tongue, which can control the whole body if you don’t administer control.
Here’s the problem – the tongue cannot be tamed! The tongue can cause a war. It is a world of iniquity and is unruly. It is a fire!
Beasts, birds, and other animal creatures can be tamed. Not so with the tongue. It blesses God and turns right around and curses man, totally disregarding the fact that man is created in God’s image.
It spews out sweet words and in an instant spews out bitter words. It is a lethal weapon. It can kill and make alive. It can bring joy, happiness, and bitter sadness.
A friend or relative, a mother or father can utter negative words and stop the growth of a young person and stifle the confidence of that person. People never forget destructive, bitter, disparaging words spoken to them.
Please be very careful what we speak. It can bring a lifetime of sadness. Every time the negative is spoken from the past, the person harks back to those words, and they become alive over and over. Only the Holy Spirit can blot out the memories and help you to be be delivered from those memories.
