Post-humous celebration at CWCB Expo and Cannabis Week tributes cannabis activist and former BAPAC President
The Black American Political Association of California (BAPAC) will join the Southern California Coalition (SCC) as they honor the many contributions of long-time cannabis industry activists and recently departed BAPAC president, Darren W. Parker.
SCC will host the public networking event that kicks off the CWCBExpo and Cannabis Week on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., at the Pattern Bar, located at 100 West 9th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015.
Parker was a cannabis advocate and Democratic activist who worked for three California Assembly Speakers; chaired the California Democratic Party’s African American Caucus for over a decade; led a local chapter of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; and was president of BAPAC at the time of his death.
“Darren understood the opportunity for African American entrepreneurs to succeed in this newly legalized cannabis era,” said Robert Farrell, BAPAC President and retired L.A. Councilman. “He was a visionary who constantly sought out ways to empower Black people through politics, business and community enrichment.”
SCC’s mission is to ensure that local, state and federal legislation is inclusive, fair and implemented in a responsible manner. They were instrumental in persuading the city of Los Angeles to begin licensing cannabis businesses.
