Horace Christian is all about excellence and he aims to produce top-of-the-line designs that reflect his commitment.
As the owner and chief designer of New Name Creative, he considers himself a representative of Jesus and the Kingdom, which means that his graphic designs should be high quality and visually appealing to draw others to Christ.
“From a spiritual point of view, the world is always looking for an excuse not to partner with Christians or looking for a reason not to like Christians,” explained Horace. “I think when your branding is right and your graphics looked good, it makes everybody turn their head and say ‘wow, that’s nice.’ They see that the faith-based community knows how to do things with excellence!”
A designer for more than 20 years, Horace enjoys working with the faith community to enhance their graphic image. His expertise covers logos, social media graphics, T-shirt design, and product design and marketing campaigns. He is also proficient in designing flyers, banners, business cards, stationary and CD/DVD cases.
“I get excited about helping people bring their vision to life. When the Lord gives them ideas, whether it is for a business, event or ministry, they may not have the gifting, talent or time to actually do it themselves. But they want somebody who understands the ministry side of it and the spiritual side and at the same time, understand the practical side of graphic design – the text, emotions, and really taking the vision that they had in their spirit and putting it on paper or online where everybody can see it,” said Horace.
“Also, it is important for the saints to have their graphics and branding consistent. For instance, the same logo that you see on the letterhead, you should see on their Facebook page, on their typing envelopes and on everything. It gives a unified look. I think the Lord has given me a gift to help people do that for their ministry or business,” he noted.
Another advantage New Name Creative offers is a reasonable price for his work. Recognizing that many ministries operate on limited funding, he aims to provide what he describes as “the million-dollar look at an affordable rate.”
Clarifying his approach, Horace said, “A lot of times, individuals or churches don’t have thousands of dollars in their budget for logo design or graphics and branding, but they still want their items to look nice. I made it a point, on purpose, to make my services really affordable where you can get really nice work done that fits within your budget.”
The inspiration for designing excellent graphics hit Horace years ago after he began noticing flyers for ministry event. To him, the poorly designed announcements – which sometimes featured small type, distorted photos and misspelled words – did not entice him to want to attend the activity.
Deciding to try his hand at it, Horace began producing small flyers for his church using a computer at his local library because he didn’t have one of his own. His skills improved through practice and training, and soon people beyond his fellowship hired him for graphic design projects. Recalling his company’s evolution, Horace said, “It has been growing ever since and has been a blessing.”
God also blessed Horace with the name, New Name Creative. “Anytime God changed someone’s nature in the Bible, He also changed their name,” he said, citing the name changes of Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel and Simon to Peter.
“So, I asked God, ‘what do you want me to do to help the body of Christ, what kind of name should I have?’ God gave me New Name and what I would like to do is help people with their graphics and take their brand to the next level to be representative of that new name that God has given them,” declared Horace.
Basing his mission on Habakkuk 2:2, where God instructs the prophet to “write the vision and make it plain that may run who reads it,” Horace said, “What I am doing is taking the vision that God has given to a person and I’m helping them to write it and make it plain so when people see it they run in and get excited.
“I really believe that graphics can be anointed. You can look at a logo or a flyer and it looks exciting and inviting. I have other clients that are not Christian, but that is what I really want to do for the body of Christ because I really want God’s people to look good!”
