| A convicted felon serving a life sentence for a 2007 murder was sentenced today to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing three other people more than a decade ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
In May, Gilton Pitre (dob 5/4/72) pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and admitted two special circumstance allegations: multiple murders and murder with a prior murder conviction. Deputy District Attorney Samuel Hulefeld prosecuted the case. Pitre murdered Jane Doe, aka Maribel Medina, on or about Jan. 31, 2004, and Irma Barboza, 24, on or about Sept. 2, 2004. Barboza was about eight months pregnant when she was killed. Both women were transients whose bodies were dumped in the downtown Los Angeles area. Pitre was sentenced to 110 years to life in state prison for the first-degree murder of Alyssa Gomez, a 15-year-old runaway whom he strangled in 2007 in a Sunset Boulevard motel room.
