Student organizations throughout the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) are organizing a variety of events at the District’s nine colleges in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day on September 25, 2018. The district-wide student voter registration activities are also in response to a call by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the March for Our Lives organization to ensure young people are empowered to let their voices be heard at the ballot box.
National Voter Registration Day, www.nationalvoterregistrationday.org, is traditionally held on the fourth Tuesday of every September. Earlier this year, Mayor Garcetti and March for Our Lives, www.marchforourlives.com, announced a Los Angeles-area student voter registration drive that included LACCD. The on-campus events include:
Los Angeles City College, 855 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles. Voter Registration Festival, Noon to 2 p.m., Main Campus Quad. Music, variety of info and activity booths.
East Los Angeles College, 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez, Monterey Park. Variety of events throughout the week to promote voter registration awareness. Look for directional signs for activities and information.
Los Angeles Harbor College, 1111 Figueroa Place, Wilmington. U.S. Flags will decorate the campus for the day to highlight variety of activities including voter registration. A “Constitution Comment Wall” will be set up to allow students to say what the U.S. Constitution means to them. Events 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Main Quad.
Los Angeles Mission College, 13356 Eldridge Ave., Sylmar. Patriotic Festival, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Main Campus Quad, with fun activities and prizes. Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters on scene to assist students with registration.
Los Angeles Pierce College, 6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills. Celebrating enrolled status as a Voter Friendly Campus by www.voterfirendlycampus.org. Celebration activities and voter registration takes place 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Main Mall.
Los Angeles Southwest College, 1600 W. Imperial Hwy., Los Angeles. Voter Registration Booth, Student Services Building Lobby, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other on-campus activities for students and prize drawings.
Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, 400 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles. Joint celebration of Constitution Day and Voter Registration Day, with student festival, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. League of Women Voters helping with voter registration in front of Mariposa Hall.
Los Angeles Valley College, 5800 Fulton Ave., Valley Glen. Voter registration tables, Student Union Plaza, 10 a.m. to Noon and 4 p.m. to 6 p. m.
West Los Angeles College, 9000 Overland Ave., Culver City. Main Quad area features registration booths and other info and activity throughout the day.
