Now-Jun. 10
“Nearly Gone Gal: The Rescued Archives of Nellie Lutcher”, March 11-June 10, will exhibit archival recordings, newspaper articles, personal letters, original photographs, and significant archives related to jazz and pop singer, songwriter and pianist Nellie Lutcher. This year, the Center has the unprecedented opportunity to exhibit and highlight the life and work of jazz pianist and vocalist Nellie Lutcher. We will feature the personal and discarded archives of the artist credited as an influence on Nina Simone and the sound of Jazz and Pop in the 50’s and 60’s. Nellie Lutcher once made her home in the West Adams community where she was a longtime resident, living on Van Ness and Washington. Local historian and community activist, Billie Green rescued her discarded archives from Washington and Hobart. The William Grant Still Arts Center is located at 2520 S. West View St in Los Angeles, CA 90016. You can also visit their website at https://wgsac.wordpress.com/
