The 2011 Nike 3ON3 Basketball Tournament drew the most teams in the event history, nearly tripling in size from its first event and has become a Southern California tradition that now attracts the best teams from California and around the country. Around L.A. LIVE, STAPLES Center and along Chick Hearn Court, the Nike Basketball 3ON3 will have approximately 100 outdoor basketball courts set up in addition to an interactive Fan Fest to accommodate the thousands of athletes, guests and families participating and attending this year’s event.
Highlights from past years’ events include special basketball clinics from former Lakers star A.C. Green, Celebrity Round-Robin games, featuring Sugar Shane Mosley and Zach Levi among others and “Shot From the Top” events with Los Angeles Lakers stars Derek Fisher and Rick Fox, Los Angeles Clippers Coach Vinny del Negro and award-winning actors David Arquette and Jeremy Piven. Among 2011’s highlights was an appearance by Team AMP1, the only amputee stand-up basketball team in the country, playing against able bodied players and their exhibition game was featured on ESPN’s Sports Center at the Nike 3ON3 Basketball Tournament as one of their “Top Plays of the Day”.
“We have seen tremendous growth in not only the teams but also the fans that have experienced the Nike Basketball 3ON3 presented by One A Day over the last three years. Growing to be the largest 3 on 3 basketball tournament in California, we look forward to what this year’s event will offer,” said Scott Hanley, Vice President, L.A. LIVE Events. “The greatest part about the event is that anyone can play no matter what your skill level may be. It is a fantastic way to spend the summer weekend outside with your friends and family.”
