Effects of Court Closures on African-American Community to take Center Stage of Discussions

The California Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) will hold their 36th annual conference in Los Angeles through April 28 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel (404 South Figueroa Street) in Los Angeles. 

Themed “Igniting the Torch,” current CABL president Jamon Hicks (Cochran Firm) will pass the torch of leadership to president-elect Kimberlei Evans Dixon who will serve as the 2013-2014 president.

Among the special guests and speakers for this year’s event are Mona Pasquil, appointments secretary for California Governor Jerry Brown, Joshua Groban, senior advisor to Governor Jerry Brown, and U.S. Attorney General Andre Birotte.

CABL honoree Democratic Congresswoman Karen Bass will deliver this year’s keynote address at the annual Installation Ceremony and Gala Awards Dinner on Saturday, April 27 where KNBC’s Beverly White will serve as mistress of ceremonies. Other 2013 honorees include Judge of the Year, Judge Marguerite Downing and Lawyer of the Year Simona Farisse. 

Conference speakers will include members of California’s Legislative Caucus including assemblymembers Holly Mitchell, Steven Bradford, Isadore Hall III, and State Senator Curren Price.
