A number of heavy hitters in sports came together for the 26th Annual Cedars Sinai Sports Spectacular. The athletes and special guest at the awards dinner raised over $1.3 million for the Medical Genetics Institute at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. The Medical Genetics Institute combats genetic birth defects.
The gala was hosted by John Salley, Samantha Harris and Jim Hill, and the honorees included Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers, Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsey Vonn, NFL Defensive Player of the Year Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan.
The crowd of over 1,800 included Ron Artest of the Los Angeles Lakers, former NFL defensive end Michael Strahan, former NFL running back Eddie George, former NFL wide receiver Michael Irvin, Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals, former NBA point guard Gary Payton, former NFL defensive end and ESPN analyst Marcellus Wiley, former100-meter dash world record holder Maurice Green, and Laker great Michael Cooper.
The Sports Spectacular has raised more than $21 million to benefit the life saving work of the Cedars Sinai Medical Institute over the years.
After the dinner guests were able to mingle with each other at the VIP after party, which was hosted by Payton, and produced by A Frostchild Production.
“The purpose of the Sports Spectacular VIP after party was to show our appreciation to the athletes, entertainers, and people who are in the business of supporting Cedar Sinai and their sports awards dinner,” said Danielle Frost, owner and founder of A Frostchild Production.
Frost has supported the Sports Spectacular for the past 10 years, and her company has produced the VIP after party for the past five.
“Every year we always saw an opportunity to do an after party for every one who participates in the dinner and supports the cause,” Frost said. “We eventually started producing their VIP after party and every year it has become bigger and bigger. It’s a great time for everybody to come together, because during the dinner everybody is sitting together at tables, but after the dinner it gives everybody a chance to mingle with each other.”
The after party featured red carpet interviews by Claudia Jordan, and a special gift was given to Strahan and girlfriend Nichole Murphy.
Strahan and Murphy have been long time supporters of the Medical Genetics Institute at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, so they were given a free trip to stay at the Desert Rose Resort, who were one of the sponsors, on the island of Anguilla, which is a tropical island in the British West Indies.
Many partygoers stayed late to celebrate with music provided by former Laker Cedric Ceballos, who was the DJ at the event.
