Danny Bakewell, Sr., founder and creator of Taste of Soul Family Festival and executive Publisher of the LA Sentinel, announces that Taste of Soul 2020 is canceled.

“Due to COVID-19, Taste of Soul Family Festival 2020, is canceled. Our number one concern is in helping our community stay healthy and free of this virus; following the recommendations of our public officials and front-line healthcare providers, we felt a festival the magnitude of Taste of Soul would not be in the best interest of the community,” Bakewell, Sr. said.

There will be a “Call to Action’ to support Black businesses. We can all make a difference in helping our Black businesses recover from the challenges experienced through the economic shut downs within our city due to COVID-19,” said Danny Bakewell, Sr.

As the Los Angeles community and nation struggles to deal with the new normal of sheltering-in, Black businesses have been greatly impacted. In an effort to continue the spirit of Taste of Soul and its commitment to the health and safety of our community, Taste of Soul 2020 will not happen on the historic Crenshaw Blvd. in 2020. Instead, the LA Sentinel intends to shine light and awareness on Black business locations, store fronts and online services.

In the coming months, Bakewell Media will send information to its multi-million Taste of Soul Nation attendees who have supported the festival over the years, to share the Taste of Soul “Call to Action” to support Black businesses affected by COVID-19.

Until then, Bakewell Media asks that you continue to support Black businesses, and spend your money in our community whenever possible. Also, remember COVID-19 is not over, continue to practice social distancing, wear a mask anytime you are out in public and please don’t gather in groups of more than 10.

These are the keys to flat lining this pandemic and returning to a healthier stronger community as soon as possible.

Taste of Soul 2021 planning is already underway and is currently scheduled for October 16, 2021 and will be BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!
