Ushers, nurses and hospitality workers throughout the west coast will gather for the 51st Annual Western Region Ushers’ Conference starting Thursday, April 10, through Saturday, April 12, at the Crowne Plaza LAX Hotel, 5985 West Century Boulevard in Los Angeles.
“Under the dynamic leadership of Regional Director Ruth I. Jones, Regional President Julia M. Rodgers and Board of Directors Chairwoman Helene D. Ward, ushers will unite to celebrate this spiritual journey of praise,” said host Southern District President Mattie L. Gardette.
“In addition, the convention will include the school of ushering, training and development, scholarship awards, honoree tributes and fellowship directed by State President Pamela R. Jamison and Board Chairwoman Doris J. Gilton,” she noted.
“All doorkeepers, church members, pastors and friends are welcome to attend,” said Host Pastor Raymond L. Chandler of Greater Love Christian Fellowship and Co-Host Pastor Scipio Stubbs, Jr., of Calvary Resurrectional Baptist Church.
Activities begin on Thursday with registration at 10 a.m., followed by the General Session at 10:45 a.m., at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The State Hospitality Social is set for 4:30 p.m., at Good Shepherd Baptist Church led by Pastor Renandez Grim.
Highlighting Friday’s agenda are the Ruth I. Jones Prayer Breakfast at 7 a.m., the Welcome Program at 10 a.m., and the Recognition, Awards and Installation Banquet at 6 p.m., where Ushers Blanche L. Sutton and Maude Smith will be honored. All events take place at the hotel.
On Saturday, the Call to Order will be held at 6:43 a.m., George T. Grier School of Ushering at 7 s.m., the General Session at 10:45 a.m., and the Junior and Young People’s Sky Zone outing at 11:15 a.m.
“Trustee Board Chair Rosie L. Lee along with Los Angeles County District President Maude Smith, California State 1st Vice President Diana Harrison, Western Region Vice Chairman Board of Directors Celestina Cobbs and many other Southern Area doorkeepers have worked diligently to prepare for this awesome event,” added President Gardette.
