The 7th Annual Camp Wesson for 100 at-risk kids at Hansen Dam Recreation Area was another success. Enjoying some relief from the summer heat were (left to right), Imani Black, Dana Gomes, and Soroya Ngyuen, all 8 years old.
The annual summer camping adventure that Council President Herb Wesson and Project SAVE planned for approximately 100 at-risk kids was a success, said a spokesperson for the event. The 3 day – 2 night camping trip took place at the Hansen Dam Recreational Area, where for many of the participants it was a first time experience. The kids were between the ages of 8 and 12 years old.
“We wanted this to be an exciting adventure for these kids,” said Wesson. “We also wanted them to be able to make friends and gain the confidence of having new experiences.”
Among the activities were swimming, nature hikes, kayaking, wall climbing, archery, horseback riding, fishing, and star gazing with the Los Angeles Astronomical Society. There were also campfire skits and songs.
Wesson and his staff have organized this trip for the past 7 years.
