Claudia Bayard, Pioneer Woman of the Year and 10th District Councilman Herb Wesson
Los Angeles—Claudia Bayard has been chosen by Councilmember Herb J. Wesson, Jr., to represent the 10th Council District’s “2011 Pioneer Woman of the Year.”
The Los Angeles City Council annually honors fifteen women of achievement from each of the fifteen Council Districts who have made exceptional contributions in the service of the community.
“Claudia Bayard’s energetic commitment to volunteerism in our community has set an example more should emulate,” said Councilmember Wesson. “She has also been a great partner in bringing new economic development and jobs to the community.”
Ms. Bayard’s remarkable record includes longtime service on the boards of the Pico Neighborhood Council, the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment Peer Mentoring Program, and Picfair Village.
She also volunteers her time in support of the Tom Bradley Youth and Family Center, Holy Spirit Church, and Saturn Elementary School, where she organizes their ‘back to school” project, providing free backpacks and school supplies to students every year.
Ms. Bayard also organizes Thanksgiving meals and Christmas toys for families in need during the holiday season.
“Leadership by example has always characterized Claudia’s relationship to our community,” said Wesson. “She is an outstanding individual who truly exemplifies the meaning and spirit of this award.”
