Council President Herb Wesson has announced that the demolition of the former Ralphs supermarket site will clear the way for a new major retail center

The demolition of the former Ralphs supermarket at Crenshaw Boulevard and Rodeo Road now underway will clear the way for the construction of “District Square,” a major new retail center, according to Council President Herb Wesson who represents the area.

“The “District Square” project will be an important economic engine for our community,” said Wesson.  “This will be a major step in continuing our efforts in changing the face of Crenshaw Boulevard.”

The $93 million retail center will consist of approximately 300,000 square feet of quality retail outlets and a restaurant.  Over 1,200 combined permanent and construction jobs will be generated.

The demolition and excavation of the site is being managed by C. L. Taylor, a Leimert Park resident and  owner of T-LEC Construction, an African American family-owned business that has been in the community for over 35 years.

“We will see construction will begin once the demolition is completed and the site is cleared,” said Wesson.
