Word of Encouragement Community Church, Muslim Public Affairs Council and Walker Temple A.M.E Church are among the religious and community groups uniting with American Jewish World Service to appeal for an end to worldwide gender-based violence.
The ‘Bring Back Our Girls Interfaith Vigil and Call to Action’ forum takes place on Tuesday, June 10, at 7 p.m., at Wilshire Boulevard Temple, 3663 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.
According to Pastor D. Najuma Pollard of Word of Encouragement, “The Interfaith Vigil and Call to Action was organized in response to the abduction of our Nigerian sisters.
“We urge everyone concerned about this appalling kidnapping to join us in this effort and support our goal to encourage Congress to pass the International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA).”
The 90-minute program will include presentations, prayer and music. Also, attendees will have an opportunity to sign petitions and write postcards urging Congressional representatives to pass the IVAWA.
Co-sponsors of the free event also include Wilshire Boulevard Temple, IKAR, L.A. Consular Corps, United Way, Association of Black Women Physicians, Rhema House, USC Office of Religious Life, Beverly Hills Bar Association, Jewish World Watch and National Council of Jewish Women, Los Angeles section.
