The annual family festival continues to showcase the peace that exists in our community.
Another ‘Taste of Soul’ Family Festival (TOS) has come and gone…but the feel good vibes it brings continue to resonate on the streets of Crenshaw and beyond. More so than having successful vendors, exciting entertainment and good food, TOS is a prime example of peace.
Created by Danny Bakewell Sr., TOS is a family-oriented event for the community to come together, celebrate and partake in all the aspects that make our community great. For the past 7 years now, TOS has shown itself to be one the largest events of its kind and it maintains peace and order.
Mainstream media have not always been the African American community’s friend throughout the years. The Crenshaw District and South Los Angeles overall, have come to be viewed through dark lens. Despite past incidents and occurrences, TOS is utilizing Crenshaw as an example of what a successful LA event is.
This is thanks mostly to the community that comes out to enjoy TOS every year. The vibes at TOS are always of peace, brotherhood and celebration. People come to support their community and to see each other. Not only do locals come to TOS, but from across the U.S., from vendors to patrons, everyone comes to have a good time.
TOS has undoubtedly established itself as the #1 Family Festival in Los Angeles. People love it and appreciate it for all that it offers and brings, from the entertainment to the food, it never disappoints. The community shows its love and support by making sure it’s a joyous and peaceful event every year.
Chief Beck of the LAPD, gave the occasion one of its highest compliments saying, “I thoroughly had a great time at this year’s ‘Taste of Soul’ festival. It truly reflected a family-friendly atmosphere and it was wonderful to see everyone having such an enjoyable time.”
