Minister Theresa McKinney-Lawrence

Many times, we let the opinions and views of the world block us from God’s vision for our lives.
“As Simon Peter stood warming himself, he was asked, ‘You are not one of his disciples, are you?’ He denied it, saying, “I am not.” (John 18:25)
Getting caught up in stuff cannot only keep you from seeing the miracle of a blessing, but it can also block your blessings. Block you from feeling, seeing and recognizing your blessing.
Peter got caught up in stuff. Peter, who was a true homey of Jesus, was so worried about what others would think, and what others were going to do that he turned coat, he flaked out. Peter lost his focus. Peter denied Jesus, not once, but three times. Peter was caught up in the thickness of ‘stuff.’
What exactly is ‘stuff?’ Let’s define it as mess, which makes up jealousy, fear, and envy. ‘Stuff’ is that main ingredient in power struggles that inhabit us. When someone is trying to get things done their way because their way, to them, is the only way, those someone’s are usually knee deep in ‘stuff.’
Those involved in ministry need to be more focused on God’s plan, saving souls, helping others find salvation. When we are so full of worrying and focusing on what that one has and how much that one is making, we become taken over by ‘stuff.’ Where is the space for God to dwell? Look at Peter, he was so full of fear, he lost focus.
Now, for a moment, go with me to the book of Matthew to the woman with the issue of blood. That sister didn’t get caught up in ‘stuff’ that day. People were pressing in on Jesus wherever He went, trying to see him, trying to get close. Egos fighting for position issues were likely being thrown from left to right.
Well, my sister realized sometimes you must fly under the radar of ‘stuff.’ You might even want to use some ‘stuff repellent’, which is prayer! My sister dropped to her knees that day because she realized she had to crawl to get pass the ‘stuff.’
She was focused on a faith mission. When we have a mission, no matter who we are, man or woman, we cannot, we should not, let the ‘stuff’ of the world block us.
We must be like Jesus. He did not get caught up in the ‘stuff’ and Jesus had a mission, a job to do, and a promise to fulfill, to save us from us. We needed and still need to be saved from the ‘stuff’ of life, saved from sin. Jesus rose above the ‘stuff’ of man, that ‘world stuff’ could not keep Jesus down.
So, when ‘stuff’ comes flowing your way, and it will, you may first have to get on your knees, get down low, to let the ‘stuff’ go by. But, remember to be like Jesus, who prayed His way through the ‘stuff.’
Be like Jesus, who didn’t stay down, for you must rise so you can walk the path God has for you. We are not here to walk according to man’s ‘stuff,’ so don’t get caught up, rise above!
