The distinguished ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. joined Pastor Sonja R. Dawson and the New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church family on May 19 for ‘Delta Day 2013.’
Alumnae Chapter members of Los Angeles, South Bay, Rancho Palos Verdes, Cerritos, Inglewood, and Compton gathered for a wonderful time of worship and celebration. Soror Sharee Sanders Gordon, Esq., president of the Los Angeles Alumnae Chapter brought greetings on behalf of all in attendance.
This year marks the centennial celebration of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., which was founded in 1913 by twenty-two women at Howard University.
“We are elated to share in faith, family, and fellowship with this organization that was established to promote academic excellence and reach persons in need,” said Pastor Dawson, a member of the Los Angeles Alumnae Chapter.
“For 100 years, their legacy has continued both domestically and internationally, spanning across racial/ethnic dimensions and providing resources and support to a number of educational financial, health and humanitarian efforts.”
The concept of Delta Days was originally implemented in 1989. The occasion encourages membership involvement in civic and community engagement. On Delta Day, members throughout the country come together in a spirit of unity and action in civic arenas, community organizations and faith-based institutions.
