New Hope Selects Hooks as Pastor

Historic New Hope Baptist Church of Los Angeles has selected the Rev. Larry D. Hooks II of Oklahoma City, OK, to serve as its fifth pastor.  He assumed his duties on March 10, and delivered his first sermon to the congregation.

The Rev. Hooks brings over 20 years of experience in Christian ministry to New Hope.  He received his calling in 1990 while serving in the United States Military.  After answering his call to ministry, the Rev. Hooks completed formal education in Christian Seminary, and used his background in social counseling to promote the Christian faith.  

Pastor Hooks has served as pastor of churches in Texas and Oklahoma.  His experience includes youth ministry, community outreach, Christian Education, and missionary activities both in the United States and abroad.

New Hope Baptist, located at 5200 South Central Avenue, was founded in Los Angeles in 1906 and remains a strong presence in the community.  Under Pastor Hooks’ leadership, the church aims to expand its Christian outreach efforts.
