Community Service Program

Program  Description:

Natural disasters are a common fact of life. Through proper planning, families are better prepared and can prevent serious injury and reduce damage to their home. After a major disaster, the American Red Cross Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Poll found that many U.S. adults did not receive information about disaster preparedness in the past year or did not have a preparedness kit and preparedness plan. This training guide focuses on preparing community residents to help their neighbors (in English or Spanish) prepare for a natural disaster. The training guide contains information on how to prepare a low-cost emergency kit to sustain a family for 72 hours. In addition, information is provided on how to map an escape route and secure your home in case of a natural disaster.

Guide includes:

_         A Power point presentation with notes

_         A Facilitators’ guide

_         Presentation guidelines

_       Home Safety Emergency Plan Prep Guide (Salvation Army, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and endorsed by FEMA)

Personal instruction can be provided on preparing for the presentation.
