MARC MOORE NAMED MAN OF THE YEAR BY THE LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA SOCIETY OF GREATER LOS ANGELES
Marc Moore, Facilities Manager for Southern California Gas Company, has been named “Man of the Year” by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Greater Los Angeles Chapter. Each year in communities across the country, dynamic and passionate candidates like Marc engage in a spirited competition to earn the “Man or Woman of the Year” title by raising funds for blood cancer research.
Marc has worked for more than eight years behind the scenes at numerous Leukemia fundraising events. His unselfish efforts are due to his respect for and admiration of a courageous and talented little girl named Meghan Flynn and her parents George and Norma Flynn. This bright and energetic little girl succumbed to leukemia at the tender age of eight. Marc expressed his feelings about Meghan and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, “Although Meghan was only on this earth for eight years, her unbelievable spirit is why I continue my efforts and support to find a cure for leukemia.”
Marc became “Man of the Year” for raising nearly $54,000.00 for continued cancer research. Because of Marc and his supporters a research procedure will be named in honor of Meghan Flynn and her courageous spirit.
Marc’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence H. Moore and his aunt, the Honorable Gwen Moore, CEO of Gem Communications are proud of Marc’ achievements and service to diverse community projects. In addition to his work with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, his ongoing community involvement includes the MEND organization, “Stop Hunger” for the San Fernando Valley, Ventura County Special Olympics, and the Diversity Business Enterprises (DBE).
Over the years, he has also participated in the “Light the Night” with the Gas Company, assisted in the implementation of the “Tired Iron Classic” car show fundraising event, and donated twenty pints of blood during the Red Cross collections at the Gas Company facilities.
This outstanding employee of the Southern California Gas Company has worked in the Real Estate and Facility Operations for twenty-six years. As a Facility Manager he oversees the northern territory of the Gas Company stretching from Los Angeles to
Monterey California. Marc is a native Californian, a graduate of Fairfax High School and completed upper division courses at Pepperdine University. In addition to being a dedicated employee of the Gas Company, Marc is a devoted husband to wife, Tammie and a father to two boys, Dylan and Mason.
Marc is happy to have been a part of the “Man and Woman of the Year” efforts to provide lifesaving blood cancer research, financial assistance to cover patient expenses for transportation and medication and educational materials for patients and their families. He further stated, “I would like to express my appreciation to my co-workers at the Gas Company, and to my family and friends for their hard work and support that made his victory possible.”
Because of Meghan’s courageous spirit, Marc’s dedication to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society continues.
