The 81-year-old legacy continues for the Interdenominational Ministers’ Wives and Widows Council of Los Angeles and Vicinity.
On Saturday, December 8 at 12 noon, the group will induct its 46th president and salute three outstanding women during its Annual Installation of Officers/Scholarship Luncheon at the Marriott Hotel, 3635 Fashion Way in Torrance.
Dr. Bennie R. Petitt, who serves as the 2012 president, will turn the gavel over to Dr. Kathye Jenkins who begins her tenure in January 2013. Also, Mrs. Mae Alexander of Bethesda Temple Apostolic Church, Pastor Michelle D. Beal-Boone of Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith and Mrs. Rosa M. Jones of True Light Missionary Baptist Church will be honored.
“Our motto, ‘Do Today Thy Nearest Duty,’ carries the message of hope and concern we have for one another and our churches and communities,” said Dr. Petitt.
“Through the years we have provided outreach to convalescent homes, group homes, shelters, rehabilitation facilities, and food and clothing ministries. We also provide scholarship support to young people as a way of encouraging them in their educational endeavors.”
Established in March 1931, the organization has been led by 45 presidents representing various denominations starting with Mrs. Maude E. Watkins. While 37 are deceased, eight past presidents remain actively involved.
They are Mrs. Ellee Evans-Henderson, Mrs. Wilma Morgan, Mrs. Willie B. Saunders, Mrs. Flora Fudge, Mrs. Mary R. Jackson, Mrs. Iva Lee Lucas, Mrs. Irene B. Bryant, and Mrs. Mabel E. Griffin.
