Two programs will highlight the 95th Anniversary of Trinity Baptist Church starting with a gala banquet on Friday, November 9, and concluding with a special worship service on Sunday, November 11.
According to Pastor Alvin Tunstill, Jr., the banquet celebration takes place at 6 p.m., at the LAX Marriott Hotel. “We will honor all of our 95+ year old members, who paved the way many years ago. We promise you an evening of good entertainment, good food and great fellowship as we trace our historical journey through many generations,” he said.
The master of ceremonies for the occasion will be James Janisse, known as the ‘Gentleman of Jazz.’ Musical selections will be performed by Richard Turner, soloist Cherrelle Pate, violinist Amber Daughtry, saxophonist Don Bynun, and gospel mime, Akela Wroten, Jr.
On Sunday at 10 a.m., the Anniversary Worship Service will feature the Rev. A. Russell Awkard, pastor of New Zion Baptist Church in Louisville, KY, as the guest speaker. The Moderator of the Central District Association, he previously served as president of the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention and Moderator of the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky.
“Rev. Awkard is a dynamic speaker who has done great things at New Zion, such as building a new edifice, establishing several new ministries, sponsoring a 122-bed nursing home and launching a free boarding school for middle-school boys,” said Pastor Tunstill.
“He is married to the Honorable Pamela E. Bridgewater Awkard, United States Ambassador to Jamaica, and the father of two daughters and a stepson and the grandfather of four.”
Linton and Flora Rutledge are the program chairpersons, Edward and Rachel Turner are co-chairpersons, and Doris Peters is publicity chair.
Trinity is located at 2040 West Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles, California. Call the church office at (323) 735-0044 for banquet tickets or more information.
