(L to R) Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Council President Herb Wesson, Councilman Dennis Zine and Chief Deputy and D. A. candidate Jackie Lacey

City Council President Herb Wesson has endorsed Jackie Lacey for the office of District Attorney for Los Angeles County.

“Jackie Lacey is a proven leader who has the experience and commitment to a fair and firm justice system in which the people of LA County can place their confidence,” said Wesson.  “She is also someone who can work well with all of the state and local jurisdictions.”

Lacey, who currently serves as the Chief Deputy District Attorney, is a career prosecutor with a distinguished record of achievement.  As Chief Deputy, she manages an office of 1,000 attorneys, 300 investigators, and over 800 support staff.

“When she first started working in the District Attorney’s office, it was a man’s world, as James Brown put it,” said Wesson.  “She broke through to become the Chief Deputy of that office.”

She is now seeking the office of District Attorney in the November election run-off.  If elected, she would become the first woman and the first African American elected to that office.

Joining Wesson at the announcement were Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, District Attorney Steve Cooley, City Councilmembers, Jan Perry, Dennis Zine, and Paul Koretz.   She has also been endorsed by the Los Angeles Sentinel and the Los Angeles Times.  As well as Senator Dianne Feinstein, Attorney General Kamala Harris, District Attorney Steve Cooley, Sheriff Lee Baca, the LA Police Protective League, the Association of LA Deputy Sheriffs, and many others.
