As close to a half million local residents ready for the 7th Annual Taste of Soul massive Family Festival Oct. 20th on Crenshaw Blvd. from 10am-7pm, Compton’s favorite Radio Free 102.3 KJLH will be out to at least duplicate its star stage production which last year was a major hit.
Last year spectators labeled he event as the best one yet, and KJLH had much to do with that considering the KJLH stage included artist such as Goapele, Doug E. Fresh, Naughty By Nature, Queen Latifah, Lenny Williams, N’Dambi, Esnavi, Chris Walker, Margo Thunder, Tasha Taylor, Tyrese, Eric Benet, Johnny Gill, Donnie B.
Officials at the radio station are keeping their performers as close to a secret as an Academy Award, thus indicating that something major is brewing under Stevie Wonder’s watch at the Inglewood based station that is licensed to Compton.
The station is known for introducing new talent such as ShaSha Jones who performed “Best Thing” by Beyonce, “Found Love” by Lil Wayne and her very own single giving the crowd an awesome performance with a twist of new school.
There could be a tribute song in store for fans like the one they did for to Dougie E. Fresh and everyone knows that as long as Aundrae Russell is around their gospel will be second to none.
“I have been in the industry for a very long time and this (2011) was by far the biggest crowd I have seen, it has doubled last year’s (2010) crowd and the year before,” said Russell.
