Edward Parker

Edward Parker of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Los Angeles - San Diego District, has been named Ministry to Men (MTM) Man of the Year in the church's Southern California Region.  Parker, coordinator of his district's MTM fellowship, was honored for his  faithfulness and vision.

Parker joins C.M.E. men statewide this weekend, September 14-15, in Fresno for the annual Northern and Southern California MTM "Gathering of Eagles" Retreat.

"MTM helps our men understand their purpose and the call God has for us as spiritual leaders in our families, churches and communities," says Parker. "The retreat is a place for men to renew their commitment to Christ as advocates and change agents in our world."

1 Corinthians 16:13, "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong," guides Parker.

"It captures the essence of what I believe my demeanor and conviction as a Christian man should be, my character and my resolve," he says.   He hopes to reach men of all ages for Christ.  "I want to inspire our men to reach out and dialog with other men and invite them to church and fellowship."

Chosen in part for his innovative, straightforward approach, the MTM Man of the Year champions the re-emergence of community vocational training and supports youth leadership partnerships for African-American boys.  He ran in the recent Los Angeles marathon and mentors future marathoners.

Parker says he was elated at his Man of the Year selection.  "More importantly, I was honored to accept the award on behalf of the men who have been diligent in their  support of  MTM," he said.

He attends Grace Community C.M.E. Church, temporarily meeting at the C.M.E. Ninth District Headquarters, 3844 West Slauson Avenue. Rev. Emma Burrus is pastor.
