Pastor Bernard M. Jackson

Phillips Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church welcomed its new pastor, the Rev. Bernard M. Jackson, during Communion Service on August 5.

Bishop James B. Walker, presiding prelate of the C.M.E. Ninth District, announced the appointment at the close of the 27th Session of the C.M.E. Southern California Region Annual Conference on August 4.

Most recently, Pastor Jackson served as pastor of Saint James C.M.E. Church in Columbus, GA.  He also led the historic Holsey Memorial C.M.E. in Sparta, GA, and served as an associate minister at Williams Memorial C.M.E. in Augusta, GA.

A pastor deeply rooted in prayer, Pastor Jackson cited 1 Chronicles 4:9 in his inaugural sermon at Phillips Temple, assuring members that "your present situation is not your destiny.

"To overcome your present, go the extra mile,"  said the Rev. Jackson, "and let your present propel you into prayer."

He is a magna cum laude graduate of Paine College in Augusta, GA, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, minor in Religion. Jackson also has completed coursework toward his Master of Divinity degree at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta.

The Rev. Jackson grew up in Victorville, CA, where he was a member of Emmanuel Temple C.M.E. and graduate of Victor Valley High School.
