Councilmember Herb Wesson and the new pastor of Holman United Methodist Church, Reverend

When Dr. Henry Masters recently accepted the call to return to Dallas, Texas to become Pastor of St. Luke Community United Methodist Church, he left some big shoes to fill in Los Angeles at Holman United Methodist Church.

Answering the call to fill those shoes is Reverend Kelvin Sauls, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, who brings over 16 years of ordained ministry in both local churches and within the agencies of the United Methodist Church.

“Reverend Sauls is clearly a dedicated spiritual leader.  He’s a man full of energy and commitment, and it’s going to be a pleasure working with him,” said Council President Herb Wesson.  “I know that our entire community will join me in welcoming him and his family with open arms.”

Reverend Sauls has also provided pastoral leadership at Downs United Methodist Church in Oakland, and Jones United Methodist Church in San Francisco.

He is a published writer, poet and percussionist, and is married to Reverend Judi Wortham-Sauls, who shares his commitment to pastoral care and Holman.  Reverend Wortham-Sauls is an ordained Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Together, they offer the promise of continuing the long and distinguished legacy of outstanding spiritual and community leadership and Holman United Methodist Church.
