CORI presents Family Health Day: Focus Cancer

Inglewood – Mayor James T. Butts presented the California Oncology Research Institute (CORI) and its Medical Directors, Dr. Anton Bilchik and Dr. Ronald Hurst with commendations from the city of Inglewood for their dedication to bringing cancer education to the community.

CORI presented a Family Health Day: Focus Cancer to a packed house at the First Church of God this past Saturday.  The overflowing crowd had to be moved from the fellowship hall to the main sanctuary.  The attendees were treated to a gourmet continental breakfast that included freshly squeezed watermelon, orange and cranberry juices, sliced salmon on bagels and croissants and a variety of freshly baked pastries as well as breakfast cereals and yogurt. Breakfast was followed by dynamic presentations

that covered colon, prostate, and breast cancer as well as general oncology.  Free mammograms were provided following the workshop.  Each attendee received a complimentary gift bag donated by AfricanWonders.com.  Four gift cards were given out to audience members that correctly answered questions regarding the presentations.

The workshop was produced and moderated by Angela de Joseph, Executive Director of the Global Wellness Project (GWP) and featured four renowned and prestigious cancer doctors.  

Dr. Ronald Hurst is the Director of Clinical Research for CORI, and spearheads the community outreach efforts. He has been named as one of America’s Best Surgeons since 2003. Dr. Hurst specializes in breast, colorectal, melanoma, and sarcoma cancers as well as general surgery.  

Dr. Anton Bilchik, co-founder and Medical Director for CORI.  Dr. Bilchik is Chief of Medicine and Chief of the Gastrointestinal Research Program at John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica.

 Dr. Dana Scott is a urologic surgeon currently practicing in Los Angeles. She attended Howard University where she earned her BS in chemistry and MS in biochemical genetics and earned a Medical Degree from Drew/UCLA Medical Education Program.  

Dr. Jenny Ru, an internist, hematologist and oncologist practicing in Torrance. She combines her knowledge of Eastern and Western medicine in treating cancer patients. She was awarded the Most Outstanding Fellow in Hematology, for her patient care by the faculty at USC/Norris Cancer Center.
