The Watts Summer Festival is one of the oldest African American cultural festivals in the United States. It was designed to serve the ever-increasing need for cultural interaction within the African American community. This year the annual celebration will be held on Friday, Aug. 13; Saturday, Aug. 14 and Sunday, Aug. 15 Noon - 8 p.m. at Ted Watkins Park, Success Avenue & Central Avenue in South Los Angeles.This year will be the first year that the festival will be held without its founder Tommy Jacquette. He kept the Watts Summer Festival going for over four decades making it an expression of the Black Cultural Experience. Gone but not forgotten, he will live on through the festival.
